# Limit Order

## What is a Limit Order?

An order that executes at the selected limit price or better.

Limit Orders rest on the Orderbook until they are filled by Makers

## Place a Limit Order

* Pick **Limit** from the order type dropdown
* Set your **Limit Price** manually or move the line directly on the chart
* Set your order **Size** in USDC or asset units
* Press **Long** or **Short** to place your order

**Limit Orders** can also be placed directly on the chart using the [**Plus Sign**](/lit-docs/trading-guide/trade-on-chart/plus-sign-menu.md) menu.

Moving a **Limit Long** above market price or a **Limit Short** below market price will result in the order executing **immediately** as a [**Market Order**](/lit-docs/trading-guide/order-types/market-order.md) at market price.
